When pupils become upset in class they often present behaviours that are hard to manage calmly. If staff feel out of their depth and emotions rise on both sides, the result can be loud, frightening and, for the member of staff, unprofessional. We look at the strong emotions that surface in confrontations and share professional strategies for dealing with an angry pupil, so that what you do or say does not lead to allegations or raise your own stress.
Drawing on more than 1,300 classroom observations, this two part webinar covers a range of de-escalation practices. Each part sets discussion points for breakout rooms before the course leader shares and develops good practice. You will also receive further reading and links to recommended video clips to broaden your understanding.
