This course is for teaching staff working with pupils who present significant challenge in special schools, alternative provision, pupil referral units or demanding mainstream classrooms. It builds on the learning from our other courses and takes it further.
Course Overview
The day opens with the introduction, mandate and baseline preparedness, then works through five modules.
Module 1: Space. The considerations that matter when you work in close proximity to SEND pupils, many of whom have lived through adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and how to apply them.
Module 2: Communication. How to get the most from your communication skills for the benefit of everyone involved.
Module 3: Listening. Most of us think we listen well. Working with challenging SEND pupils asks for more, and this module covers listening that helps both the child and you.
Module 4: Taking the right approach. How to handle difficult situations calmly and without physical intervention in SEMH and AP settings.
Module 5: Evaluation. Reflecting on your approach so you can keep improving it.
Before You Book

Your correct name must be visible on screen at all times. If you're unable to fully participate or meet these requirements, please rebook, as certification may be withheld.
