Very Challenging Behaviours Webinar

​This webinar looks at how to understand and support pupils with serious needs, whether medical, learning, trauma or anxiety related. Reports of teaching staff facing abusive language and even physical assault are rising, in mainstream schools as well as special schools. Supply staff are not trained psychologists and are often poorly briefed on the pupils in front of them, which makes support harder.

Incidents are often described as happening in the moment, but staff who know a pupil can usually spot the cues and use those moments to de-escalate. Those strategies only work if you understand the pupil and their needs in advance.

Some settings, many special schools among them, are well rehearsed and well resourced for this. Many mainstream schools, which are seeing more pupils with serious challenges, are less prepared, and often rely on an on-call team to remove a pupil, help that does not always arrive before the end of the lesson. This webinar builds the understanding you need for those moments.
