This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly supportive specialist setting that caters for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and those who have experienced challenges within mainstream education. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to students' lives through personalised, trauma-informed teaching and learning.

The Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, inclusive lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils with complex learning, behavioural, and emotional needs. This role is particularly suited to individuals with vocational expertise in Construction, Engineering, or Mechanics, who are passionate about engaging learners through practical and meaningful learning experiences. Previous teaching experience is advantageous but qualified teacher status is not essential.

About the Setting:

Our client provides specialist education for students with SEMH needs in a highly supportive environment. Students benefit from small class sizes, excellent staff-to-student ratios, and a curriculum that combines traditional academic subjects with vocational pathways.

The provision takes a trauma-informed approach to education and pastoral support, enabling students to build confidence, develop positive relationships, and achieve meaningful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons within your specialist subject area.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, attendance, and achievement.
  • Support students with a range of SEND and SEMH needs through personalised teaching approaches.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and other specialist professionals.
  • Lead and contribute to curriculum development in line with national standards and inspection requirements.
  • Plan and deliver lessons for small groups and individual learners.
  • Produce clear and accurate curriculum plans, individual learning plans, and progress reports.
  • Implement evidence-based SEND strategies and interventions to support learning and engagement.
  • Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Requirements:

  • Experience within Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related vocational field.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with SEND and SEMH needs.
  • Experience working within a SEND, SEMH, alternative provision, specialist education setting, or a similar environment is essential.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
  • A commitment to helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.

Training and Development:

While a teaching qualification is not required for this position, our client is committed to investing in their staff and can support successful candidates who wish to work towards a recognised teaching qualification in the future.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced pension scheme.
  • Generous staff referral programme.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
  • Access to a Blue Light discount card.
  • Fully funded training and professional development opportunities.
  • Competitive salary structure based on experience and qualifications.
  • Employee wellbeing programme and retail discount scheme.
  • Life assurance cover.
  • Opportunity to work within a highly supportive and rewarding specialist education environment.
