📍 Southend-on-Sea, Essex
💼 Full-time / Term-time only (part-time considered)
💷 £23,000 - £30,000 pro rata (dependent on experience)
📅 Start date: Immediate Start



About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our supportive and forward-thinking school community in Southend-on-Sea. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled practitioner to play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school.

As an HLTA, you will work closely with teachers and senior leaders to deliver high-quality support both in and out of the classroom. You will be confident leading whole-class sessions, delivering targeted interventions, and contributing to the planning and assessment of pupil progress.



Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lessons to whole classes in the absence of the class teacher
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver learning activities under teacher guidance
  • Support pupils' learning across a range of subjects and abilities
  • Lead small group interventions to raise attainment
  • Provide tailored support for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Assist with assessing, recording, and reporting on pupil progress
  • Promote positive behaviour and uphold school policies
  • Contribute to creating an inclusive, engaging, and safe learning environment


The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification (or be working towards it)
  • Previous experience working in a school setting (essential)
  • Strong classroom management skills and confidence leading lessons
  • Experience supporting SEN pupils (highly desirable)
  • A good standard of education (GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above minimum)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive, flexible, and positive approach to supporting children's learning
