We are recruiting a dedicated and resilient Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for a specialist SEMH and SEN school in Wigan. This role is ideal for candidates with experience as a Teaching Assistant, HLTA, Sports Coach, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, or Rehabilitation Support Worker.
If you have experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEN, autism, ADHD, or challenging behaviour, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your career within specialist education.
Role Overview
- HLTA role supporting pupils with SEMH and SEN needs
- Work with students with autism (ASC), ADHD, and behavioural needs
- Deliver interventions and lead small group or whole-class sessions
- Support behaviour management and emotional regulation
- Build positive relationships and act as a positive role model
- Work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals
- Support pupils in both classroom and therapeutic settings
Key Requirements
- Experience working in SEMH, SEN, or behaviour support
- Background as a Teaching Assistant, Sports Coach, Support Worker, Youth Worker, or similar
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Confident communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced specialist school environment
- Passion for supporting young people with additional needs
Ideal Backgrounds
- Sports Coach or PE Coach
- Behaviour Mentor or Youth Worker
- Rehabilitation Assistant or Support Worker
- Teaching Assistant ready to progress into an HLTA role
Experience in sports, physical activity, mentoring, or rehabilitation programmes is highly valued within this SEMH setting.
