Pastoral Behaviour Mentor

Job description

Pastoral Behaviour Mentor - Chester

Long-Term | Full-Time | Chester

Inspire confidence. Re-engage young people with learning. Make a difference.

An outstanding alternative provision in Chester is looking for a Pastoral Behaviour Mentor to join their team on a long-term basis, with the potential for a permanent position for the right person.

The school supports pupils from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, helping young people with social, emotional and behavioural needs to overcome barriers and achieve their potential.

As a Pastoral Behaviour Mentor, you'll play an important role in helping pupils build positive relationships, develop emotional regulation, regain confidence and re-engage with education.

The Role

You'll provide 1:1 and small-group pastoral support, working closely with teachers, SEN staff and the wider pastoral team to create a positive and consistent learning environment.

You'll help pupils to:

  • Build positive relationships with adults and peers
  • Develop confidence, resilience and self-belief
  • Re-engage with lessons and learning
  • Develop emotional regulation and self-awareness
  • Understand and manage their emotions
  • Develop positive attitudes towards education
  • Discover their strengths, interests and talents
  • Recognise their achievements and celebrate progress
  • Develop the skills and confidence needed for their future

Education at the Heart of the Role

This isn't simply a behaviour support role.

You'll help young people understand what sits behind their behaviour, identify barriers to learning and develop strategies that enable them to manage challenges more positively.

Most importantly, you'll help pupils see themselves as learners encouraging curiosity, celebrating progress and helping them recognise what they can achieve.

You'll work alongside teachers and the wider school team to create an environment where pupils feel safe enough to learn, confident enough to try and supported enough to succeed.

Your Experience

You don't necessarily need previous school experience.

We're looking for someone who can build strong professional relationships, remain calm and consistent, and genuinely believe in the potential of every young person.

Your experience could come from:

  • Teaching Assistant or SEN roles
  • Pastoral or Behaviour Support
  • Youth Work or Mentoring
  • Sports Coaching
  • Children's Care or Residential Support
  • Support Work
  • Community or Outreach Work

We're Looking For Someone Who Can

  • Build professional trusting relationships with young people
  • Inspire pupils to engage with education
  • Encourage confidence, curiosity and a love of learning
  • Support SEMH and emotional regulation needs
  • Work positively alongside teachers and colleagues
  • Remain calm, patient and consistent
  • Celebrate progress and encourage success
  • Be a positive role model

Why This Role?

If you're looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to a young person's education, this could be the opportunity for you.

You could be the person who helps a pupil discover their strengths, rebuild their confidence and realise that they can succeed in education.

If you're passionate about education and want to help young people believe in themselves, find their strengths and develop a positive future, we'd love to hear from you.
