A supportive Alternative Provision in Shrewsbury is looking for a Behaviour Mentor / SEN Teaching Assistant, with a particular interest in Psychology graduates who are keen to develop experience working with young people with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and behavioural needs.

This isn't just classroom support-it's about applying your understanding of behaviour, development, and mental health in a meaningful, practical setting where relationships and consistency make the difference.

The Setting

This is a structured and supportive Alternative Provision where staff work closely together to create a calm, consistent environment for learners who need a more individualised approach.

You'll be part of a team that understands behaviour as communication and prioritises building trust, safety, and positive relationships.

Students may take part in enrichment activities and off-site experiences, helping them build confidence, social skills, and engagement beyond the classroom.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided, making this an ideal first step into education or SEN for a Psychology graduate.

What You'll Be Doing

• Supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), SEMH, Autism and ADHD
• Working as a Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant and Learning Support Assistant
• Providing 1:1 support and small group interventions
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
• Encouraging engagement, independence and routine
• Building consistent, trusting relationships with young people
• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff
• Supporting learning both inside and outside the classroom

Who We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in Psychology graduates, but you do not need previous school experience.

We are looking for someone who is:

• A Psychology graduate (or related degree)
• Interested in child development, behaviour or mental health
• Calm, patient and resilient
• Strong at building relationships and communicating effectively
• Able to use initiative and stay consistent under pressure
• Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people

Experience from roles such as support work, care, youth work or coaching is also highly valued.
