About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and other professionals to provide targeted support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

You will play an important role in ensuring that every pupil can access learning successfully and feel included, valued and supported within the school community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
• Support pupils to access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.
• Work alongside the class teacher to implement individual learning and support plans.
• Adapt and differentiate learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Provide targeted support with literacy, numeracy, communication and other areas of learning.
• Support pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
• Encourage pupils to develop independence, confidence and positive relationships.
• Use appropriate strategies to support communication and interaction.
• Assist pupils with developing their organisational and self-regulation skills.
• Monitor and record pupil progress and provide feedback to the class teacher.
• Contribute to observations and assessment of pupils' learning and development.
• Support pupils during lessons, break times, lunchtimes and school activities where required.
• Help create a calm, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff and external professionals.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils and their families.
• Follow individual pupil risk assessments, support plans and school policies.
• Promote positive behaviour and reinforce the school's expectations.
• Support pupils with transitions and changes to routines.
• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of every child.
• Attend staff meetings, training sessions and relevant professional education and training opportunities.
• Contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
