About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and the wider school team to provide high-quality support for pupils with additional needs.

You will help ensure that every child can access the curriculum, participate fully in school life and develop the confidence and independence they need to succeed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEND.
• Support pupils to access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.
• Work alongside class teachers to implement individual support and learning plans.
• Adapt and differentiate activities to meet individual learning needs.
• Provide targeted support with literacy, numeracy, communication and other areas of learning.
• Support pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs.
• Encourage pupils to develop independence, resilience, confidence and self-esteem.
• Use appropriate strategies to support communication and interaction.
• Assist pupils with organisation, concentration and self-regulation.
• Monitor and record pupil progress and provide regular feedback to teachers.
• Contribute to observations and assessment of pupils' learning and development.
• Support pupils during lessons, break times, lunchtimes and school activities where required.
• Help maintain a calm, safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff and external professionals.
• Develop positive and trusting relationships with pupils and their families.
• Follow individual support plans, risk assessments and school policies.
• Promote positive behaviour and reinforce the school's expectations.
• Support pupils with transitions and changes to routines.
• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of every child.
• Attend staff meetings, training sessions and relevant education and training opportunities.
• Contribute positively to the wider life of the school.

• Previous experience working with children with SEND is desirable.
• A good understanding of SEND and the barriers children may face when accessing learning.

• The ability to encourage independence while providing appropriate support.
