We are recruiting a Sports Coach to work within a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and SEN school in Wigan. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in sports coaching, behaviour mentoring, youth work, or rehabilitation programmes.

If you have experience working with young people with SEMH, SEN, autism (ASC), ADHD, or challenging behaviour, this is a fantastic opportunity to use sport and physical activity to support engagement, behaviour, and emotional development.

Role Overview

• Sports Coach role within a SEMH and SEN school in Wigan
• Deliver sports, PE, and structured physical activity sessions
• Support pupils with SEMH needs, SEN, and behavioural challenges
• Use sport as a tool to improve behaviour, engagement, and wellbeing
• Work alongside teachers, Teaching Assistants, and SEN staff
• Support pupils both in and out of the classroom

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging sports and physical activity sessions
• Support behaviour management using positive strategies
• Build strong relationships with pupils as a positive role model
• Support emotional regulation through structured activities
• Assist with classroom support when required
• Encourage teamwork, resilience, and confidence
• Support pupils with autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs
• Maintain a safe and structured environment

Key Requirements

• Experience as a Sports Coach, PE Coach, or similar role
• Experience working with young people or within education settings
• Strong behaviour management and communication skills
• Ability to engage and motivate pupils with SEMH needs
• Resilient, patient, and adaptable approach
• Passion for supporting young people with SEN and SEMH

• Rehabilitation Assistant or Fitness Instructor
• Candidates with experience in SEMH schools or alternative provision
