About the Role

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and ambitious secondary school in Romford. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference by supporting students aged 11-16 (or 11-18 where applicable) to achieve their academic potential while developing their confidence, independence, and wellbeing.

Working closely with teachers, SEND staff, and the pastoral team, you will provide high-quality classroom support, deliver targeted interventions, and help students overcome barriers to learning. Key Responsibilities

• Support teachers in delivering engaging, inclusive, and effective lessons across a range of subjects.
• Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning and improve progress.
• Provide tailored support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), where required.
• Encourage positive behaviour and promote high expectations in line with the school's behaviour policy.
• Help students develop organisation, study skills, resilience, and independent learning strategies.
• Prepare learning resources and contribute to creating a stimulating classroom environment.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers to support effective planning.
• Foster an inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued, supported, and able to succeed.
• Support students during breaktimes, educational visits, and extracurricular activities when required.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, parents, and external professionals to support students' academic and personal development.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

• Passionate about supporting young people and helping them succeed.
• Patient, adaptable, and able to remain calm in a busy school environment.
• An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
• Able to build positive and professional relationships with students and colleagues.
• Organised, proactive, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
• Experienced in working with secondary-aged children through education, youth work, coaching, mentoring, or similar settings (desirable but not essential).
• Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics. A Teaching Assistant qualification is advantageous but not essential.
