We are working in partnership with a fantastic primary school in Maldon that is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join its Year 1 team. The Role

As a Year 1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support pupils academically, socially and emotionally throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the Year 1 teacher with the delivery of engaging lessons and classroom activities

• Working with individual pupils and small groups to reinforce learning

• Delivering and supporting phonics interventions

• Listening to pupils read and helping to develop their confidence and fluency

• Supporting early writing, spelling and handwriting activities

• Helping pupils develop their understanding of early maths

• Supporting children as they transition from EYFS into the more structured KS1 curriculum

• Preparing classroom resources and learning materials

• Encouraging positive behaviour and reinforcing classroom expectations

• Providing additional support to pupils who may need help accessing their learning

• Supporting children's social and emotional development

• Helping to create a safe, stimulating and inclusive classroom environment

• Following safeguarding policies and reporting any concerns appropriately

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience working within Year 1, EYFS or KS1 and will understand the importance of providing nurturing but structured support to younger pupils.

A good understanding of phonics and early reading would be highly beneficial. You should be patient, proactive and confident working both independently and alongside the class teacher.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping children develop their confidence, independence and love of learning.
