This two-day course is designed to refresh key skills and update knowledge for teachers returning to teaching after a prolonged absence or transitioning from permanent or overseas positions into supply teaching in England and Wales. The course covers six core elements to help teachers adapt quickly and effectively to supply teaching environments.

Course Overview

Day 1

Morning: Virtual Safeguarding, including Safer Working Practices (2hrs 30 mins)
This full Safeguarding course, updated as of September, provides essential knowledge on safeguarding children and young people. The session includes opportunities for questions and discussions. This course satisfies the requirement for a three-year generalist safeguarding update and includes the Safer Working Practices course, which outlines key strategies for staying safe in the classroom.

Afternoon: Virtual Behaviour Management Workshop (3hrs)
This session addresses the most common low-level disruptions in classrooms, such as calling out, chatting and distractions from devices. Participants will learn effective techniques and strategies to manage these behaviours, creating a better learning environment for both teachers and pupils. These skills aim to reduce stress and improve classroom dynamics.

Day 2

This session will cover key areas, including:

    • Understanding the National Curriculum and Benchmarks

    • Approaches to Assessment

    • Understanding Special Educational Needs (SEN), ADHD and other relevant conditions

    • How Ofsted evaluates schools and aligns with Teachers’ Standards

Afternoon: Effective Feedback Webinar & Course Evaluation (2hrs 30 mins)
The Effective Feedback webinar focuses on strategies for providing feedback that helps students make rapid and sustained progress. This session aims to empower teachers to help pupils value their learning while supporting schools in meeting their targets.
