This webinar explores effective ways to use praise to motivate learners in today’s primary and secondary classrooms. Unfortunately, there are more ways to misuse praise—potentially demotivating learners—than there are to use it effectively.
We will examine the purpose of praise, how it may be perceived and where and when it can have the greatest impact. There is no single "right way" to use praise and rewards consistently, as children present dynamic and ever-changing challenges. Furthermore, praise and rewards should not serve as substitutes for strong teaching and planning. Instead, they work best as part of an adaptive teaching strategy, encouraging students to take on increasing levels of challenge, especially during moments when they might not otherwise experience success or the satisfaction it brings.
The Professional Learning Specialist (PLS) leading the webinar will expand on key points and provide additional insights where needed.
