This is day two of our two-day Virtual Introduction to the Cover Supervisor Role course which is specifically designed for individuals interested in becoming Cover Supervisors but who may have limited classroom experience. The Cover Supervisor role is one of the most challenging in education, as it typically involves working with students with whom you have little or no established rapport. This course is ideal for professionals from other fields looking to transition into teaching, providing them with the skills and awareness needed to excel in day-to-day Cover Supervisor roles (subject to meeting relevant compliance standards, including holding a degree and having experience working or volunteering with children).
The course introduces key skills, highlights required qualities and raises awareness of the latest standards and expectations for the role. It consists of four core elements:
Full Safeguarding
Full behaviour management workshop
Safer Working Practices, Cover Supervisor role, qualities and skills
Useful teaching strategies (including the Teaching Hell Webinar on what NOT to do in the classroom)
Discussion is encouraged throughout the course.
The VICSR training includes:
Virtual Safeguarding (VSG) – (2 hrs 30 min)
This comprehensive Safeguarding course has been updated with the latest guidance and is designed to provide opportunities for questions and discussion. For those working with children, a full generalist safeguarding course must be completed every three years, with annual updates to stay informed of current guidelines. Upon completion, this course will count as your three-year update.
This session also includes the Safer Working Practices module, which provides key strategies to ensure your safety while working in the classroom.Behaviour management workshop
This workshop addresses common disruptive behaviours encountered by teachers, such as calling out, chatting at inappropriate times, arriving late and using electronic devices inappropriately.
Proactive classroom management is essential for creating a calm learning environment. This session introduces a range of proven techniques to help students remain focused, even when lesson plans are minimal or nonexistent.
