Teacher of Business Studies

Location: Ilford, London Borough of Redbridge
Contract: Full-time, Permanent (Fixed-term considered)
Start Date: April 2026 (or earlier by negotiation)
Salary: Main Pay Scale / Upper Pay Scale (Inner London weighting)

A high-achieving and inclusive secondary school in Ilford is seeking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of Business Studies to join a well-established and forward-looking department. The school serves a diverse local community and is committed to ensuring that every student is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to succeed in further education, employment, and entrepreneurship.

Business Studies plays a key role within the school's curriculum, with strong uptake at both Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. The department continues to grow and offers a range of academic and vocational pathways, ensuring students develop both theoretical understanding and practical business skills.


The Role and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach Business Studies across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, including GCSE, BTEC and/or A-Level courses

  • Deliver consistently high-quality lessons that promote curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world application

  • Plan, sequence, and adapt lessons to meet the needs of all learners, including SEND and high-attaining students

  • Use a range of assessment strategies to monitor progress, provide meaningful feedback, and secure strong outcomes

  • Contribute to curriculum planning, review, and development within the Business department

  • Support examination preparation and coursework requirements where applicable

  • Maintain high standards of classroom management and student behaviour in line with school policies

  • Participate in enrichment opportunities such as enterprise activities, competitions, educational visits, and links with local businesses

  • Engage fully in departmental meetings, whole-school CPD, and performance management processes

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers to support student progress

  • Contribute positively to the wider life of the school, including form tutoring and extracurricular activities


Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (or be in the process of achieving it)

  • Have strong and up-to-date subject knowledge in Business Studies

  • Be passionate about teaching and learning, with a commitment to inclusive education

  • Demonstrate high expectations for student achievement, effort, and conduct

  • Be reflective and committed to continuous professional development

  • Have the ability to work collaboratively as part of a supportive and professional team

  • Be confident in using data to inform teaching and raise attainment

  • Show a willingness to contribute to curriculum innovation and departmental improvement

Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are encouraged to apply and will benefit from a structured induction programme, mentoring, and reduced timetable.
