About the Role

Simply Education is recruiting confident and adaptable cover supervisors to support secondary schools across Newcastle-under-Lyme. This role is ideal for individuals who have previously worked in a teaching or classroom-based environment and are looking to further develop their experience without the planning and marking responsibilities of a full teaching post.

You will deliver pre‑prepared lesson content, maintain a purposeful learning environment, and ensure pupils remain engaged and on task throughout the lesson.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver pre-set lesson plans in the absence of the class teacher

• Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies

• Ensure pupils remain focused, engaged, and supported during lessons

• Provide clear instructions and maintain a calm, structured learning environment

• Report any concerns or incidents to the appropriate school staff

• Adapt to different subjects and year groups as required

• Support the wider school team when needed

Requirements

• Previous experience working in a teaching or classroom setting (such as teaching assistant, learning mentor, tutor, or trainee teacher)

• Strong communication and behaviour management skills

• Confidence in leading a classroom independently

• Adaptability to work across various subjects and age groups

• A reliable and professional approach to supporting schools

• An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one

• Availability for flexible working patterns
