English Teacher - Secondary School

Location: Braintree, Essex
Contract: Full-time, Permanent (or Fixed-Term considered)
Start Date: Immediate Start
Salary: MPS/UPS (dependent on experience)

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and committed English Teacher to join a supportive and forward-thinking secondary school in Braintree. This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who are enthusiastic about delivering high-quality English education and inspiring a love of literature and language.

You will teach English Language and Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4. The successful applicant will be joining a collaborative and well-resourced English department with a strong focus on literacy, progress, and student wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured English lessons that meet curriculum requirements

  • Inspire students to develop strong reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills

  • Monitor, assess, and track student progress, providing clear and constructive feedback

  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental planning

  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, achievement, and engagement

  • Participate fully in school life, including parents' evenings, CPD, and enrichment activities

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or is on track to obtain it

  • Has strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature

  • Demonstrates excellent classroom management and communication skills

  • Is committed to inclusive teaching and raising attainment for all learners

  • Works well as part of a team and contributes positively to the wider school community

  • ECTs are warmly encouraged to apply (full induction and mentoring provided)
