About the Role

We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Temporary Finance Officer to join our busy and supportive school finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to ensuring robust financial processes within an educational setting.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Trust's financial operations, ensuring compliance with procurement procedures and delivering value for money across all purchasing activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess purchase orders for best value prior to processing, making recommendations to the Finance Manager where appropriate.
  • Collate and process orders and invoices for the Trust, ensuring all required authorisations are obtained from the appropriate budget manager in line with Trust procurement procedures.
  • Utilise digital finance systems, including a purchasing portal or IRIS Purchasing module, to process transactions efficiently and accurately.
  • Resolve supplier queries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Liaise with suppliers to request and process credit notes where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience in a finance or accounts role (school or public sector experience desirable).
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes and financial controls.
  • Experience using digital purchasing systems (experience with IRIS Financials/Purchasing would be advantageous).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with staff, budget holders, and external suppliers.
  • A proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills.
