The Role:

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and therapists to provide high-quality learning support, lead small group sessions, and occasionally cover classes when required. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about special education and keen to make a meaningful impact on children lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teaching and learning across the school, adapting strategies to meet the diverse needs of our pupils.
  • Plan and lead small group interventions, working on targeted learning objectives.
  • Assist in creating and delivering engaging, individualised learning activities.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to support pupil progress.
  • Support the development of communication strategies, including the use of PECS, Makaton, or AAC systems.
  • Cover classes in the absence of a teacher, ensuring a positive and structured learning environment.
  • Contribute to the assessment and recording of pupil progress.
  • Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive school environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • HLTA qualification (or equivalent) or significant experience as a highly skilled Teaching Assistant.
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with severe learning difficulties and autism.
  • A strong understanding of behavior support strategies and communication methods such as PECS or Makaton.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A commitment to professional development and continuous learning.
