Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - SEMH School
Location: Crewe
Contract: Temporary to Permanent
Hours: Full-time | Term-time only

About the Role
This HLTA position offers far more than a traditional classroom role. You will act as a positive role model, calm presence, and consistent support for pupils who require stability and understanding.
You will work closely with pupils who may present challenging behaviour, supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and access to learning through tailored approaches. The role also includes planned and short-notice class cover, requiring confidence in leading learning and maintaining consistency within the classroom.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
- Deliver planned and short-notice whole-class cover, following pre-prepared lesson plans
- Lead learning activities across the curriculum during teacher absence
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet pupils' SEMH needs
- Maintain consistent routines, expectations, and boundaries
- Use recognised de-escalation and behaviour management strategies
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
- Provide feedback to teaching staff on pupil engagement, behaviour, and progress
- Help maintain a calm, safe, and supportive learning environment.
You will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and personal development across the school.
