Humanities Teacher

Simply Education are working very closely with our client to recruit a Full-time Humanities Teacher (History & Geography) for their brand-new Secondary SEND School, opening up in the Surrey area RH1. The school is set out to support pupils aged 11-16 who require support with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing, typically associated with Autism. All of the pupils at the school have access to a broad and exciting curriculum, allied to the national curriculum, personalised to meet their needs, interests and passions. With a model of small classes, high levels of classroom support and supernumerary multi-disciplinary intervention team we are able to give students.

Key Duties:

  • Contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum, having regard to the educational, physical and social needs of the students within a learning environment.
  • Collaboratively work with other members of staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Maintain and use short, medium and long term plans in delivering the curriculum
  • Set, monitor and review personalised targets that will optimise learning for each individual
  • Monitor, assess and review on the progress and work of the students to parents, senior staff, team members and so forth.
  • Provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge

Skills and Experience:

  • Good teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective skills in planning, preparation, recording and reviewing students' progress
  • Ability to remain calm and reflective when working in a challenging environment
  • Ability to engage pupils in positive enabling relationships

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/PGCE/QTLS or equivalent) and evidence of in-service teaching

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate diploma in Autism
  • Previous experience working in a special school
  • Experience of successfully delivering a differentiated curriculum
