Learning Support Mentor - Construction Department
Location: Cambridge, UK
Contract: Part-Time (Monday to Wednesday, 22.5 hours per week)

About the Role
Simply Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and empathetic Learning Support Mentor to work within the Construction department of a college in Cambridge.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people and young adults in further education, helping them overcome barriers to learning and succeed in a practical, skills-based environment.
This role is ideal for individuals with experience in mentoring, pastoral support, SEND, or youth work, particularly within vocational or hands-on learning settings.
The Role
As a Learning Support Mentor, you will:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students within the Construction department.
- Support learners with SEND, SEMH needs, or additional learning needs in both classroom and workshop environments.
- Assist students in developing practical skills, confidence, and independent learning habits.
- Promote positive behaviour and engagement during lessons and practical sessions.
- Work closely with teaching staff, assessors, and the safeguarding team.
- Support students' personal development, wellbeing, and progression into employment or further training.
- Maintain accurate records of support provided.
Qualifications & Experience
- Level 3 qualification (or above) in Education, Childcare, Youth Work, Construction, or a related field.
- Experience supporting young people in an educational, mentoring, or vocational setting.
- Experience within a college, secondary school, or training environment (desirable).
- Understanding of SEND and SEMH needs.
- Interest in or experience with construction or practical trades (desirable).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships with students.
- A patient, proactive, and supportive approach.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Enhanced DBS check (registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply).
- Right to work in the UK.
- Ability to meet safeguarding and recruitment compliance standards.
