Role: Media Teacher - Stoke-on-Trent
As a Media Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and thought-provoking lessons that help students understand the principles of media, including its role in shaping public opinion, advertising, film, and digital content. You will inspire students to critically analyse and create media content, giving them the tools to navigate and shape the media landscape in today's digital world.
The ideal candidate for the Media Teacher role will have a strong understanding of media theory and practice, with the ability to teach students across various media formats such as film, journalism, digital content creation, and advertising. You should be passionate about helping students explore the world of media and equip them with valuable skills for their future careers.
Key Responsibilities of the Media Teacher:
- Deliver high-quality, engaging media lessons that cover a range of topics such as media theory, digital production, advertising, film analysis, and journalism.
- Encourage students to critically engage with media content, fostering skills in analysis, evaluation, and creation.
- Develop and implement creative, innovative teaching materials and resources to support learning.
- Support students in developing practical skills in media production, including photography, video editing, sound, and digital content creation.
- Assess and monitor student's progress, providing constructive feedback to help them improve their media literacy and practical skills.
- Organise and oversee extracurricular activities such as media clubs, workshops, or competitions to further develop student's interests in the subject.
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in media and digital technologies, incorporating them into lessons to ensure relevance.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers to enhance the media curriculum and create cross-curricular learning opportunities.
- Provide support for students with additional needs, ensuring they have access to the media curriculum and can achieve their potential.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of media studies, including media theory and practical production techniques.
- Experience in media production, such as filming, editing, photography, or digital content creation is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for media and its role in society, with a desire to share this enthusiasm with students.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan and deliver effective lessons.
- Experience teaching Media Studies or a related subject in a secondary school setting is preferred but not essential.
- Knowledge of current trends in digital media, social media, and the media industry is a plus.
