SEMH Teacher

Job description

SEMH Teacher

Location: Wirral

Pay: £130 - £170 Per day, dependent on payroll choice
Sector: Independent Special Needs School

We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teacher to join our team at an independent special needs school on the Wirral. This is a fantastic opportunity to support students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them reengage with their education, develop emotional regulation, and build their confidence.

About the School:

This small provision caters for young people aged 11-14 who have experienced disruptions to their education. The school focuses on rebuilding students' confidence and self-esteem through a multi-agency approach, combining academic support with emotional and therapeutic development.

With a capacity for 32 students (currently 12 on roll), the school offers small class sizes (3-5 pupils) and a high staff-to-student ratio. Students also take part in enriching activities such as horse riding, team-building, and vocational training in beauty and hairdressing, gaining life skills alongside their academic learning.

Your Role as an SEMH Teacher:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons tailored to meet the individual needs of students with SEMH challenges.
  • Provide support to students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies to engage students and promote learning, focusing on both academic and emotional development.
  • Build positive relationships with students to boost their self-esteem and emotional regulation.
  • Differentiate lesson content to ensure all students can access the curriculum and make progress.
  • Work closely with colleagues and support staff to implement personalised education plans for each student.

What We're Looking For:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience or a keen interest in working with students with SEMH needs.
  • A passion for supporting students to manage their emotions, build confidence, and achieve their potential.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
  • A proactive attitude and a commitment to helping students re-engage with their education.
