SEMH Teacher
Location: Ely, Cambridgeshire
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
About the Role:
Simply Education is recruiting a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teacher to join a specialist SEMH provision in Ely, Cambridgeshire. This full-time role is ideal for an experienced practitioner who understands the complexities surrounding Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH).
You will be supporting pupils who may present with:
  • Emotional regulation difficulties (e.g., anxiety, trauma-related behaviours)
  • Social communication challenges
  • Executive functioning difficulties (organisation, impulse control, working memory)
  • Behaviour linked to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)
  • Co-occurring SEN, such as:
    • Mild to moderate Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
    • ADHD
    • Attachment/relationship-based needs
    • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
    • Specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyspraxia
The school specialises in creating a therapeutic and nurturing environment where pupils can rebuild confidence, develop self-regulation, and re-engage with learning.
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons tailored to SEMH and mixed SEN profiles.
  • Develop personalised learning plans that recognise each pupil's emotional, social, and academic needs.
  • Use restorative approaches, trauma-informed strategies, and positive behaviour support.
  • Build consistent, trusting relationships with pupils who may display challenging or avoidant behaviours.
  • Work closely with pastoral teams, mental health practitioners, therapists, and family support workers.
  • Contribute to EHCP reviews, behaviour support plans, and multi-agency meetings.
  • Support pupils in developing strategies for resilience, self-regulation, communication, and problem solving.
About You
  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent).
  • Have strong experience working with SEMH learners and/or pupils with complex SEN.
  • Demonstrate patience, consistency, and emotional resilience, with the ability to de-escalate and support pupils in crisis.
  • Have a secure understanding of trauma-informed practice and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and develop positive self-belief.
  • Confident in working with students who may exhibit:
    • Emotional outbursts
    • Low self-esteem or disengagement
    • Social difficulties
    • Challenging behaviour stemming from unmet needs
