SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Job description

Are you an experienced and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor or teacher looking for a full-time role where you can truly make an impact? We are supporting our inclusive and dynamic special educational needs schools across Northamptonshire to recruit for experienced Cover Supervisors and Higher Level Teaching Assistants.

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in maintaining continuity of learning, delivering high-quality lessons in the absence of teachers, and helping students develop the skills, confidence, and independence they need to thrive.

What you'll do:

  • Supervise and lead classes in the absence of teaching staff, following detailed lesson plans

  • Work closely with individuals and small groups, including students with SEN or additional learning needs

  • Ensure a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment where all pupils can flourish

  • Support the development of students' independence, life skills, and confidence

  • Provide feedback to teachers on lesson outcomes, pupil engagement, and behaviour

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, HLTA, or UK teaching experience in secondary or SEN settings

  • Understand the unique needs of students with special educational needs and can adapt approaches accordingly

  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, staff, and parents

  • Can work independently while contributing positively to a wider school team

  • Bring reliability, energy, and a passion for making a real difference in young people's lives

This is more than a job - it's an opportunity to shape the educational journey of young people with additional needs while building a fulfilling career.
