SEND Teaching Assistant - St Ives, Cambridgeshire
Full-time | Monday - Friday | 8:30am - 3:30pm | Permanent Opportunity
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEND school based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. This is a full-time position and an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and making a positive impact on their educational and personal development.
The successful candidate will support pupils with a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning difficulties, and social, emotional and communication needs, helping them to access learning and develop essential life skills within a nurturing and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted support for pupils with SEND on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
Assist teachers with the planning and delivery of personalised learning activities
Support pupils' social, emotional and behavioural development
Help pupils engage with learning and develop confidence and independence
Work closely with teaching staff to implement behaviour management and support strategies
Monitor pupil progress and contribute to observations and reporting
Support effective classroom management to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment
Contribute positively to the pastoral and wider development of pupils within the school
Qualifications & Experience
Experience working with children with SEND, ideally within a school or support setting
Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant is desirable
Understanding of strategies to support autism, communication needs, and learning difficulties
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
A proactive and flexible attitude towards supporting pupils' needs
Safeguarding & Compliance
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
Right to work in the UK
