SEND Teaching Assistant - St Ives, Cambridgeshire
Full-time | Monday - Friday | 8:30am - 3:30pm | Permanent Opportunity

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEND school based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. This is a full-time position and an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and making a positive impact on their educational and personal development.

The successful candidate will support pupils with a range of needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning difficulties, and social, emotional and communication needs, helping them to access learning and develop essential life skills within a nurturing and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support for pupils with SEND on a 1:1 basis and in small groups

  • Assist teachers with the planning and delivery of personalised learning activities

  • Support pupils' social, emotional and behavioural development

  • Help pupils engage with learning and develop confidence and independence

  • Work closely with teaching staff to implement behaviour management and support strategies

  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to observations and reporting

  • Support effective classroom management to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment

  • Contribute positively to the pastoral and wider development of pupils within the school

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working with children with SEND, ideally within a school or support setting

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant is desirable

  • Understanding of strategies to support autism, communication needs, and learning difficulties

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • A proactive and flexible attitude towards supporting pupils' needs

  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
