SEND teaching assistant - Full time

Job description

Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?
We are looking for dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to join schools in Stevenage and help make a real difference in the lives of young learners.

About the Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to help pupils with SEND access learning, build confidence, and develop essential life skills. You may support pupils on a 1:1 basis or within small groups, adapting activities to meet their individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom support to pupils with SEND including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies
  • Foster a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals

Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, childcare, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential
