We are growing! Acorns Ashley School is seeking passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistants to support our students using a trauma-informed, nurturing approach. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and compassionate team that values inclusion, wellbeing, and personalised education.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality 1:1 and small group support to pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH) and special educational needs (SEN).
  • Build positive relationships with students using trauma-informed and person-centred approaches.
  • Assist the class teacher in implementing differentiated learning plans, behaviour support strategies, and pupil interventions.
  • Support with classroom preparation, resource organisation, and lesson delivery.
  • Promote emotional regulation, self-esteem, and social communication through consistent, calm support.
  • Supervise students during break times and transitions, ensuring safety and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, therapists, and families to meet individual learning targets.

Must-Have Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEN or SEMH setting.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and safeguarding procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging behaviour.
  • A nurturing, empathetic, and resilient attitude.

Good to Have:

  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
  • Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, or attachment difficulties.
  • Familiarity with EHCPs, Zones of Regulation, or Thrive/Nurture approaches.
  • First Aid or Team Teach/positive handling training.
  • Passion for inclusive education and making a meaningful difference.
