SEMH Teaching Assistant - Halesworth, Suffolk
Full-time | Monday - Friday | 8:30am - 3:30pm
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an Independent SEMH School based in Halesworth, Suffolk. This is a full-time position ideal for individuals who have experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in young people's lives.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils' academic progress, emotional wellbeing, and social development within a nurturing and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted support for pupils with SEMH and ASD needs, both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
Assist in the planning and delivery of personalised learning programmes
Support pupils' emotional regulation and social development
Work closely with teaching staff to implement behaviour and engagement strategies
Monitor pupil progress and contribute to assessments and reporting
Support effective classroom management to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment
Contribute to the wider pastoral and academic aims of the school
Qualifications & Experience
Experience working with children with SEMH and/or ASD needs
Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within a specialist or mainstream school setting
Understanding of strategies to support social, emotional and behavioural development
Strong communication skills, patience, and resilience
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
A flexible, proactive and professional approach
Safeguarding & Compliance
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
