SEMH Teaching Assistant - Halesworth, Suffolk

Full-time | Monday - Friday | 8:30am - 3:30pm

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an Independent SEMH School based in Halesworth, Suffolk. This is a full-time position ideal for individuals who have experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in young people's lives.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils' academic progress, emotional wellbeing, and social development within a nurturing and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support for pupils with SEMH and ASD needs, both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups

  • Assist in the planning and delivery of personalised learning programmes

  • Support pupils' emotional regulation and social development

  • Work closely with teaching staff to implement behaviour and engagement strategies

  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to assessments and reporting

  • Support effective classroom management to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment

  • Contribute to the wider pastoral and academic aims of the school

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working with children with SEMH and/or ASD needs

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within a specialist or mainstream school setting

  • Understanding of strategies to support social, emotional and behavioural development

  • Strong communication skills, patience, and resilience

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

  • A flexible, proactive and professional approach

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
