Salary: £23,114 per annum (pro rata)
Contract: Full-time | Temporary to Permanent

Simply Education is recruiting a caring and committed Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a Specialist Primary Alternative Provision setting in Longsight, Manchester.

This Teaching Assistant role is a highly rewarding opportunity to work with children who thrive when supported by positive relationships, predictable routines, and a nurturing learning environment. Pupils may have additional needs, including SEMH or ADHD, and will benefit from guidance that helps them build confidence, regulate their emotions, stay engaged, and celebrate progress in their learning.

This Teaching Assistant position is particularly suited to individuals who:

  • Have experience supporting pupils in SEMH, Alternative Provision, PRU, or inclusive mainstream settings
  • Enjoy building positive and trusting relationships with children to encourage them to learn.
  • Are confident using calm, consistent strategies to support emotional regulation
  • Value structure, routines, and restorative practice
  • Are committed to helping pupils make progress and stay engaged and focused on learning

The Role Teaching Assistant (SEMH / Behaviour Support)

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to help pupils access learning
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, confidence, and social skills
  • Use consistent strategies (including Team Teach approaches) to promote safety and positive behaviour
  • Work closely with teachers and staff to deliver structured, engaging activities
  • Help create a calm and supportive classroom environment where pupils can thrive and remain focused on learning

The setting operates a structured and well-supported approach, with regular staff training and clear behaviour systems in place. Wednesday afternoons include mandatory staff training to ensure all staff remain aligned in practice and safeguarding standards.

Working Pattern

  • 35 hours per week
  • Monday: 08:30 - 16:00
  • Tuesday: 08:30 - 16:00
  • Wednesday: 08:30 - 17:00 (staff training 16:00 - 17:00)
  • Thursday: 08:30 - 16:00
  • Friday: 08:30 - 15:00
  • 30-minute unpaid lunch break (lunch provided on site)

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this Teaching Assistant role, you should:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with additional or complex needs, helping them to thrive
  • Demonstrate confidence and skill in guiding positive behaviour and supporting emotional regulation
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all pupils
  • Be reliable, punctual, and consistent, helping pupils feel safe and supported each day
  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, an enhanced DBS check
  • Provide two professional references covering the past two years
