Role: Textiles Teacher - Stoke-on-Trent
As a Textiles Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and practical lessons in textiles, encouraging students to explore various materials, techniques, and design processes. You will help students develop their creative potential, from learning the basics of fabric manipulation to producing their own unique textile products. This is an exciting opportunity to nurture students' passion for textiles and make a lasting impact on their creative development.
The ideal candidate for the Textiles Teacher role will have a strong background in textiles, fashion, or design, with the ability to teach across various aspects of textiles, including garment construction, embroidery, fabric printing, and more. You should be passionate about design and creativity, with the skills to inspire students to express themselves through textiles.
Key Responsibilities of the Textiles Teacher:
- Deliver high-quality textiles lessons, covering a range of topics including design, fabric manipulation, garment construction, embroidery, and textile printing.
- Develop and implement creative and engaging teaching materials that inspire students to explore their own textile ideas.
- Encourage students to work creatively, experiment with different techniques, and develop their own unique style and projects.
- Support students in developing practical skills in textiles, including pattern making, sewing, and fabric dyeing.
- Assess and monitor students' progress, providing constructive feedback to help them improve their textile skills and understanding.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where all students feel confident to express their creativity.
- Organize and oversee extracurricular activities such as textile exhibitions, fashion shows, or design competitions to showcase students' work.
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in fashion and textiles, incorporating them into lessons to keep the curriculum fresh and relevant.
- Work collaboratively with other staff to enhance the overall design and technology curriculum and provide cross-curricular learning opportunities.
- Support students with additional learning needs, ensuring they can access the textiles curriculum and reach their full potential.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A strong background in textiles, fashion, or design (a degree or equivalent qualification in textiles is preferred).
- Experience teaching textiles, fashion, or design at secondary school level is desirable.
- Excellent practical skills in textiles and garment making, with the ability to teach a wide range of techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for design and a commitment to inspiring students to develop their creativity and technical skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and deliver effective lessons.
- Knowledge of current trends in textiles, fashion, and design is a plus.
