Job description
Position: Cover Supervisor
Location: Witham, Essex
Type: Temporary / Supply (with potential for longer-term)
Pay: Approx £130-£150 per day (depending on experience)
Start date: As soon as possible
Working hours: Full-time (term time, as required to cover absent teachers)
Role summary
As a Cover Supervisor you'll be responsible for supervising whole classes in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring that students remain focused on the work set, that behaviour is managed effectively, and that learning continuity is maintained.
Key responsibilities
Supervise lessons across Key Stage 3 & Key Stage 4 (and possibly Key Stage 5) when the teacher is absent.
Ensure students are on task, understand the instructions for the work set, and complete the tasks given.
Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policy and promote a positive learning environment.
Collect completed work and return it to the appropriate teacher or department.
Report to relevant staff about any issues arising during the lesson (behavioural, welfare, etc).
Be flexible and willing to support across different subject areas and possibly multiple schools within the locality (if you are working through an agency).
Person Specification - Essential
Experience of working with secondary school students (ideally) or in an educational setting.
Excellent classroom / behaviour management skills; the ability to engage and motivate students.
Good communication skills - able to liaise with staff, students and possibly parents.
Must hold an enhanced DBS (or be willing to obtain one) and have the right to work in the UK.
Flexible, adaptable and able to work under pressure; confident in supervising across a range of subjects.
Person Specification - Desirable
Previous cover supervision or supply teaching experience.
Understanding of the National Curriculum and previous exposure to Key Stage 3/4. Experience of using school systems (e.g., SIMS) or working with sixth form students.
