Role: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Stoke-on-Trent

As an HLTA, you will be responsible for supporting the class teacher in delivering high-quality lessons while taking on greater responsibility in planning, delivering, and assessing learning. You will work with students both individually and in groups, providing tailored support to ensure all students reach their full potential. This is an exciting opportunity to take your teaching assistant career to the next level and have a direct impact on student's academic progress.

The ideal candidate for the HLTA role will have a strong background in supporting teaching and learning, with the ability to work independently and take on additional responsibilities. You should be confident in leading lessons, supporting students with diverse learning needs, and working collaboratively with teachers to ensure the success of all students.

Key Responsibilities of the HLTA:

  • Support the class teacher in the planning, preparation, and delivery of lessons across a range of subjects.
  • Take on responsibility for planning and delivering small group or whole-class lessons as required.
  • Provide high-quality support to students, differentiating tasks and providing tailored assistance to meet individual learning needs.
  • Monitor and assess student's progress, providing feedback to the teacher and supporting students in achieving their learning goals.
  • Assist with the management of classroom behaviour and create a positive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualised learning plans for students.
  • Provide support for students with additional needs, including SEND, and help them engage with the curriculum.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of intervention programs to support students who need extra help.
  • Lead extracurricular activities, clubs, or enrichment programs to support student's development outside the classroom.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to the delivery of lessons, including marking and record-keeping.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Level 4 HLTA qualification or equivalent (or working towards).
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, with the ability to take on additional responsibilities in the classroom.
  • Strong knowledge of teaching and learning strategies, including how to differentiate for students with diverse needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, flexible approach to supporting students and working with staff.
  • Ability to lead small groups or whole-class lessons with confidence.
  • Experience working with students with SEND is desirable.
  • A passion for education and a commitment to student success.
