Position: Teaching Assistant

Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent
Hours: Full-time

A specialist SEMH school in Crewe is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support primary and secondary pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

This is a highly rewarding role for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting young people, building positive relationships, and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning in a nurturing and structured environment.


The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, pastoral staff, and SEN professionals to support pupils both academically and emotionally. Many pupils require additional guidance to manage behaviour, regulate emotions, and engage positively with learning.

The successful Teaching Assistant will help create a calm, supportive, and consistent environment where pupils feel safe, valued, and able to develop confidence in school and daily routines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting primary and secondary pupils in the classroom as a Teaching Assistant

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs

  • Assisting with differentiated learning activities and classroom management

  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour, and social skills

  • Helping pupils during transitions and unstructured times such as breaks and lunch

  • Building positive, trusting relationships and acting as a strong role model

  • Working collaboratively with teachers and pastoral staff to support individual needs

The school is looking for a Teaching Assistant who:

  • Is patient, resilient, and emotionally aware

  • Can build strong, positive relationships with pupils

  • Has experience working with children or young people (desirable)

  • Is confident supporting behaviour and emotional needs

  • Is passionate about making a difference in an SEMH school setting
