Position: Teaching Assistant

A specialist SLD and PMLD ASD school based in Chester, supporting pupils across primary and secondary age ranges, is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join its team. This is a rewarding opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting autistic pupils with complex learning needs in a structured and nurturing environment.

The school is looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant for day-to-day assignments and long-term positions.


The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to support pupils both in and out of the classroom. Pupils may experience difficulties with communication, emotional regulation, sensory processing, and changes to routine, and your support will help them feel safe and engaged in learning.


Key Responsibilities

The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Supporting pupils with Autism (ASD), SLD, and PMLD in their learning and daily routines
  • Working with both primary and secondary pupils to promote communication, independence, and emotional regulation
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support in line with individual education plans
  • Supporting pupils during transitions and unstructured times such as breaks and lunch
  • Implementing strategies to support sensory needs, routines, and positive behaviour
  • Encouraging the development of social skills, confidence, and positive relationships

About You

The school is looking for a Teaching Assistant who:

  • Is calm, patient, and consistent in their approach
  • Has experience working with ASD, SLD, PMLD, SEND, or additional needs
  • Holds GCSE Maths and English at Grade A-C
  • Understands the importance of routine, structure, and clear communication
  • Can build trusting relationships with pupils who may find school challenging
