Denby Grange is seeking a dedicated English Teacher to join our specialist team, supporting students to re-engage with learning and achieve their full potential.

Location: Wakefield
Start Date: September 2025 (or as soon as available)
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Key Stage: KS3 and KS4

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver inspiring English lessons that meet the needs of learners with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs and SEND.
  • Differentiate content to ensure access to learning for students with a range of abilities and educational gaps.
  • Promote literacy development through engaging, creative teaching strategies.
  • Set clear academic and personal progress targets, using assessment to track and adapt learning.
  • Collaborate with the wider team (TAs, SENCO, therapists) to support students holistically.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and trauma-informed classroom environment where students feel respected and valued.
  • Contribute to behaviour management strategies and positive behaviour plans.
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues, maintaining high standards of safeguarding and professionalism.

Must-Have Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching English at KS3/KS4 level
  • Passion for inclusive and therapeutic education
  • Understanding of SEMH needs, trauma-informed practice, and how these impact learning
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and re-engage disengaged learners

Good to Have:

  • Experience working in a specialist or alternative provision setting
  • Familiarity with functional skills and/or GCSE English curriculum
  • Knowledge of EHCP processes and individual learning plans
  • Experience working collaboratively with support staff and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Training in de-escalation strategies or positive behaviour support (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA)
