SEN Teacher

Are you a compassionate and committed educator ready to make a difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs? Park House is looking for a SEN Teacher to join our dedicated team and deliver inclusive, engaging, and therapeutic education tailored to each learner.

Location: Barnsley

40 hours per week (Full-time, Term-Time)
Start Date: As soon as possible

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver personalised lessons for learners with a range of SEN, including SEMH, autism, ADHD, and speech and language difficulties.
  • Differentiate instruction to suit individual needs and learning styles, ensuring accessibility and engagement for all pupils.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, therapists, and SENCOs to develop and implement EHCP targets.
  • Promote a nurturing, trauma-informed learning environment where students feel safe, respected, and motivated.
  • Assess pupil progress regularly and adapt learning plans accordingly to support academic and personal development.
  • Contribute to behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies in line with the school's ethos and policies.
  • Maintain detailed records of pupil achievements, behaviour, and attendance, and communicate effectively with parents and carers.

Must-Have Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Proven experience teaching pupils with SEN and/or SEMH
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes
  • Ability to deliver creative, differentiated, and pupil-centred lessons
  • Excellent communication, behaviour management, and relationship-building skills
  • A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and trauma-informed practice

Good to Have:

  • Additional SEN qualifications (e.g., NASENCO, autism training)
  • Experience in specialist or alternative provision settings
  • Knowledge of therapeutic approaches such as Thrive, Zones of Regulation, or nurture principles
  • Familiarity with GCSE/Functional Skills frameworks for English and Maths
  • Positive handling training (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA)
