The Role
We are seeking to appoint a motivated, knowledgeable, and passionate Teacher of Food Technology to join our Design & Technology department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning in Food Technology across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to contribute to Key Stage 5 depending on experience and qualifications.
You will plan and deliver engaging, practical, and theory-based lessons that develop students' cooking skills, understanding of nutrition, food science, hygiene, sustainability, and cultural awareness of food. You will also play an active role in curriculum planning, assessment, and enrichment activities within the department.
This is an excellent opportunity for both Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced practitioners looking to develop their skills in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Food Technology lessons in line with the National Curriculum and GCSE specifications
Create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment, particularly within practical kitchen settings
Assess, track, and monitor student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback
Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all students, including SEND and EAL learners
Promote high standards of behaviour, safety, and hygiene in practical lessons
Contribute to curriculum development and the continuous improvement of the department
Support extracurricular activities such as cooking clubs, enrichment days, or competitions
Communicate effectively with parents/carers and contribute to whole-school events
Uphold the school's safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or be working towards it
Have a relevant degree or strong subject background in Food Technology, Food Preparation & Nutrition, or related disciplines
Demonstrate strong classroom and behaviour management skills
Have high expectations of student achievement and a commitment to raising standards
Be enthusiastic, organised, and adaptable
Be committed to professional development and reflective practice
Work effectively as part of a team and contribute positively to school life
