Role: SEMH Teacher.
Location: Medway.
Contract: Full-Time, Long-term.
Salary: £120+ per day
Start Date: Immediate

At Simply Education, we are seeking a teacher who is experienced in teaching students in KS3 or KS4 and has some knowledge and understanding around the importance of supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. QTS is not required, however experience is essential for this role. As part of this position, there is no marking or planning required.

SEMH teachers play a crucial role in supporting students who face challenges that may affect their ability to learn and thrive in a mainstream classroom environment. You will be playing a vital role within the school, creating, and maintaining a nurturing and inclusive learning classroom, allowing the students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies and interventions to support students in regulating their emotions and managing their behaviour. This includes the use of positive reinforcement techniques and using de-escalation methods when necessary whilst following the school's behaviour policy.
  • Maintain effective and open communication with teachers, parents and other professionals involved in the care and education of the students, ensuring any concerns are reported following the correct procedure.
  • Providing emotional support and a safe space for students to express their feelings and concerns. Having patience and empathy toward students who may have challenging behaviours or emotional struggles and building trusting relationships and rapport with students is essential.
  • Staying updated on the latest research and best practices in the field of special education, social and emotional learning, and mental health support. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training related to SEMH support.
  • Providing emotional support and a safe space for students to express their feelings and concerns and teaching students' social skills, conflict resolution, and self-regulation techniques to help them navigate social situations effectively.

The ideal candidate would have:

  • Prior experience working with students who SEMH needs would be beneficial in this role.
  • Experience working in KS3 OR KS4.
  • Effective classroom management skills are essential.
  • Experience working with challenging behaviour (preferred but not essential).
  • Effective and strong communication skills.
  • Flexibility - This role will require the ability to adapt to changing circumstances based around the needs of the students.
  • Resilience, patience, and empathy.
