About the Role:
As a Teaching Assistant at Liverpool Progressive School, you will support children and young people with Autism, SEMH, and complex additional needs, helping them thrive in a nurturing, inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students 1:1 or in small groups to access learning tailored to their individual needs.
- Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and self-confidence using consistent, trauma-informed approaches.
- Work closely with teachers and therapists to implement personalised learning strategies and EHCP targets.
- Support students with communication, daily routines, transitions, and sensory needs.
- Encourage independence and social interaction through structured and play-based activities.
- Contribute to behaviour support plans using positive, proactive methods.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress tracking and review meetings.
Must-Have Skills & Qualities:
- Experience working with children or young people in an educational, care, or SEN setting.
- A calm, patient, and nurturing approach to behaviour and learning.
- Understanding of safeguarding, child development, and inclusive practice.
- Ability to follow guidance while also using initiative in fast-paced situations.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Good to Have:
- Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
- Experience working with Autism, SEMH, or non-verbal pupils.
- Knowledge of strategies like PECs, Makaton, or Zones of Regulation.
- Familiarity with EHCPs and person-centred planning.
Nice to Have:
- Team Teach, MAPA, or positive handling training.
- First Aid or Mental Health First Aid qualification.
- Creative skills (art, music, drama, sport) that can be integrated into sessions.
- Experience working in a residential or therapeutic school setting.
