About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant at Liverpool Progressive School, you will support children and young people with Autism, SEMH, and complex additional needs, helping them thrive in a nurturing, inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students 1:1 or in small groups to access learning tailored to their individual needs.
  • Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and self-confidence using consistent, trauma-informed approaches.
  • Work closely with teachers and therapists to implement personalised learning strategies and EHCP targets.
  • Support students with communication, daily routines, transitions, and sensory needs.
  • Encourage independence and social interaction through structured and play-based activities.
  • Contribute to behaviour support plans using positive, proactive methods.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress tracking and review meetings.

Must-Have Skills & Qualities:

  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational, care, or SEN setting.
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach to behaviour and learning.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child development, and inclusive practice.
  • Ability to follow guidance while also using initiative in fast-paced situations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Good to Have:

  • Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with Autism, SEMH, or non-verbal pupils.
  • Knowledge of strategies like PECs, Makaton, or Zones of Regulation.
  • Familiarity with EHCPs and person-centred planning.

Nice to Have:

  • Team Teach, MAPA, or positive handling training.
  • First Aid or Mental Health First Aid qualification.
  • Creative skills (art, music, drama, sport) that can be integrated into sessions.
  • Experience working in a residential or therapeutic school setting.
