Contract Type: Permanent
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other SEND.
- Assist class teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities.
- Promote positive behaviour through consistent routines, calm communication, and de-escalation strategies.
- Support students' emotional regulation using a trauma-informed approach.
- Encourage pupil participation and foster a safe, supportive classroom environment.
- Supervise pupils during break and lunch times, promoting positive social interaction.
- Assist with behaviour plans, daily reports, and safeguarding documentation as required.
Must-Have Skills & Qualities:
- Experience supporting children or young people in an educational or care setting.
- An understanding of trauma-informed practice and how it shapes behaviour and learning.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience when supporting pupils with complex needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instruction while using initiative.
- A proactive and supportive approach to teamwork and inclusion.
Good to Have:
- Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
- Experience working with pupils with SEMH, autism, or behavioural challenges.
- Familiarity with behaviour management plans and safeguarding procedures.
Nice to Have:
- Training in Team Teach, MAPA, or another positive handling strategy.
- Knowledge of Zones of Regulation, Thrive Approach, or other emotional wellbeing frameworks.
- First Aid or Mental Health First Aid training.
- Experience supporting literacy, numeracy, or creative interventions (e.g., art, drama, sport).
