Hours: Full-time, term-time only
Contract Type: Permanent

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other SEND.
  • Assist class teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour through consistent routines, calm communication, and de-escalation strategies.
  • Support students' emotional regulation using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Encourage pupil participation and foster a safe, supportive classroom environment.
  • Supervise pupils during break and lunch times, promoting positive social interaction.
  • Assist with behaviour plans, daily reports, and safeguarding documentation as required.

Must-Have Skills & Qualities:

  • Experience supporting children or young people in an educational or care setting.
  • An understanding of trauma-informed practice and how it shapes behaviour and learning.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when supporting pupils with complex needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instruction while using initiative.
  • A proactive and supportive approach to teamwork and inclusion.

Good to Have:

  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH, autism, or behavioural challenges.
  • Familiarity with behaviour management plans and safeguarding procedures.

Nice to Have:

  • Training in Team Teach, MAPA, or another positive handling strategy.
  • Knowledge of Zones of Regulation, Thrive Approach, or other emotional wellbeing frameworks.
  • First Aid or Mental Health First Aid training.
  • Experience supporting literacy, numeracy, or creative interventions (e.g., art, drama, sport).
