Job Title: Teaching Assistant (PRU)
Location: Newham
Setting: Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
Start Date: January 2026
Daily Rate: £100-£130 per day (dependent on experience)

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Newham from January 2026. This role is ideal for an individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people who require alternative provision to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

The Role
As a Teaching Assistant within a PRU setting, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils who may present with challenging behaviour, social, emotional, and mental health needs, or who have experienced barriers to mainstream education. You will play a key role in maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils

  • Support the delivery of personalised and differentiated learning activities

  • Assist with behaviour management and the implementation of support plans

  • Build positive, professional relationships with pupils

  • Support pupils' emotional regulation, engagement, and attendance

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and wider support teams

  • Contribute to a calm, consistent, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working in a PRU, alternative provision, or SEN/SEMH setting (desirable)

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • The ability to maintain clear boundaries and high expectations

  • A genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable learners

  • Relevant education, youth work, or SEN-related training is advantageous but not essential
