Make a Real Difference - School-Based Youth Worker | Bury St Edmunds

We're looking for a dedicated and proactive School-Based Youth Worker to join a supportive and inclusive secondary school in Bury St Edmunds.

The Role:
You'll work closely with students aged 11-18, providing targeted support to help them overcome social, emotional, and behavioural challenges that may affect their learning. Collaborating with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals, you'll help create a safe, supportive environment where every young person can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring for students
  • Support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Deliver workshops and interventions to build confidence, resilience, and wellbeing
  • Work with teachers to promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure joined-up support
  • Help create an inclusive, nurturing school culture where every student feels valued

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people in a school or youth work setting
  • A calm, empathetic, and patient approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to support young people through emotional and behavioural challenges
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Youth Work Level 2/3, Counselling, or Teaching Assistant) are desirable but not essential
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
